As caravan owners we have all experienced the limitation of a caravan TV antenna when travelling around our beautiful Australia. A caravan satellite takes caravan entertainment to another level.
You can choose between a portable caravan satellite dish system or a roof mounted caravan satellite dish system which is fully automated.
A downside of a portable satellite system is that you need to store it somewhere, they take a bit of time to setup and you have to deal with cable laying around the campsite. At just under 1 meter in diameter, they take up some room in your vehicle or van.
Roof mounted caravan satellite systems are fully automated, controlled by a single button inside your caravan and your satellite dish is setup ready for viewing. Roof mounted caravan satellite like SatKing is less easy to get stolen.
Within the SatKing range of caravan satellite dishes, you can choose a compact square style or a larger round dish, both of which great options for your caravan. The compact model is sometimes the only option for smaller caravans. The larger round dish generally gets coverage all over Australia, whereas the compact square option can occasionally drop out in central Australia.
Your caravan satellite system comes with a decoder, known as a VAST decoder, which comes with a unique, paired smartcard that will need to be registered before you can use it.
Note: You’ll be required to re-register the card every 6 months, so keep it somewhere safe and handy. If it’s lost the decoder is effectively useless.
Inside the satellite receiver box, there will be a registration form. If you’re not in a hurry, fill out the form and send in as instructed.
If you want to get it done faster, simply go on to either mysattv or myVAST websites. On these sites you can register your V.A.S.T. box, have questions answered, re-register when required, and inform them of your change of location.
It’s a good idea to do this before you leave home, as there may be a delay of up to 48 hours before the activation goes through.
Once you have the satellite dish installed and connected, and the smartcard registered, you should be able to enjoy good, reliable television reception wherever your caravan is parked.

Flat panel satellite TV antennas offer higher signal gain than equivalent size offset satellite TV dishes and has been recently upgrade to now provide Australia wide coverage (excluding the tip of Cape York). The SatKing Pro Max moves on 3 axis meaning the old days of having to manually get up on the roof of the van to adjust LNB skew (turning the LNB clockwise or anti clockwise) when you are travelling from say Melbourne across to Adelaide and then to Perth are gone. The complete head of the antenna simply adjust automatically for you. Automatic skew will also improve the signal quality to assist you further.

The SatKing DVBS2-800CA VAST
(Viewer Access Satellite Television) certified high definition satellite decoder brings a new level of features to the Australian VAST platform. Designed with ease of use in mind customers will find this VAST decoder a pleasure to use.
From first turn on you will notice the unit is super fast to turn on and scan in channels, the Optus VAST card is already loaded in the decoder for you. A large remote control with easy to read and use buttons with built in learning function to take over basic controls of your TV (no need for two remote controls any more). The compact design is a real winner measuring 220 mm in width and very low power consumption, well below 15 watts. With PVR ready via USB as standard, connect your external USB device (Maximum 1TB) to use to unit as a PVR.
You will also find a fast operating and easy to read 8 day Electronic Program Guide (EPG). The unit can be used for either VAST traveller customers (12 Volt) or VAST at home customers (240 Volt) via the included power pack. For self installation SatKing has developed an internal signal finder with an intensity beeper to assist with installations the higher the signal the faster the beeping and an electronic map built in to give you your coordinates for easier dish positioning.
The unit also has a detailed electronic help guide and handy features like a USB speed test to test your USB device. For the VAST traveller caravan market the unit also has an optional IR target so you can place the VAST decoder in a cupboard and hide the unit out of sight also handy two place the unit behind large screen TV’s in home when you don’t want to look at the STB. Commercial installations and customers with older TV’s will find the built in RF modulator of great assistance, you can simply use the SatKing decoder on any TV new or old without any extra expense.+
What about Foxtel?
Foxtel is a paid commercial service which you need to obtain in addition to your caravan satellite system and vast decoder box.
If you already have Foxtel connected at home or office, you may be able to take your Foxtel box with you on the caravan or RV. Alternatively, you can arrange a 2nd Foxtel box specifically for your caravan.
